Digital Nomad Visa for Third Country Nationals Officially Reinstated by Cyprus Ministry of Interior 2025

The Republic of Cyprus has officially expanded its Digital Nomad Residence Permit scheme as of April 2025, solidifying the island’s status as one of the most attractive destinations in Europe for remote workers. According to a recent announcement from the Ministry of Interior, the Migration Department will once again accept applications for residence permits under the “Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa” scheme. The maximum number of permits that can be granted remains at 500.

What is the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa?

The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is a residence permit specifically designed for non-EU/EEA nationals who work remotely for clients or companies outside Cyprus. It allows you to live in Cyprus while continuing your work online—whether you’re employed or self-employed.

– Initial duration: 1 year
– Renewable: Up to an additional 2 years

After the completion of the full 3 years of residence under the digital nomad visa, the non-EU/EEA nationals would not be allowed to apply further under this scheme, but other options such as the visitor visa are available.

If you reside in Cyprus for more than 183 days per year, you may also qualify as a Cyprus tax resident, unlocking appealing tax advantages, such as:

• Non-domiciled residents pay no tax on dividends or interest income from abroad. The non-domiciled status is granted for 17 years from the date you become a Cyprus tax resident, as long as you weren’t a tax resident or domiciled in Cyprus before.
• Capital gains from the sale of shares, crypto, or other financial assets (except Cyprus real estate) are not taxed
• No Inheritance or Wealth Tax

Who Can Apply?

You are eligible if you meet the following criteria:
• You are a non-EU/EEA citizen
• You work remotely using telecommunications technology
• You are employed by a non-Cypriot company or are self-employed serving only clients abroad
• You can prove a stable income of at least €3,500/month (after tax)
o +20% if your spouse joins
o +15% for each dependent child

Required Documents
When applying, prepare to submit the following:

• Valid passport (and copies)
• Proof of employment or self-employment with non-Cyprus companies
• Proof of income (bank statements, tax documents, etc.)
• Proof of residence in Cyprus (e.g., rental agreement)
• Criminal record certificate from your current country of residence
• Medical insurance valid in Cyprus
• Medical certificate of good health
• Passport-sized photos
• Official translations of documents not in English or Greek

Whether you’re looking for a beautiful place to live, lower taxes, or simply more sun in your workday, Cyprus now offers more space—and incentive—than ever before for digital nomads to call it home.
